Mike Soar

Mike Soar was born in Nottinghamshire, and educated at Southwell Minster School where he was a boarder.

He qualified in mechanical and production engineering, whilst apprenticed to a machine tool manufacturer in Halifax, and then became manager of an engineering company near Nottingham.

After five years he joined P-E Consulting Group and over the following decade undertook a variety of assignments in the UK and South Africa. There followed a period with a client timber company in Nottingham after which he returned to consulting.

He has worked in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, India and America. It was in the bush in South Africa that he found inspiration for his first book ‘The Search for Head Rook’ which was published in 1997.

Three years later his second book about the opening of the Great Central Railway in 1899 was published to mark the centenary.

Mike has been a member of the Writers’ Club since 1997 and writes short stories and articles.
