Ken Swallow

Ken, a former Senior Lecturer in General Studies and editor of ‘Liberal Education’ magazine through most of the eighties, found more time to write when he retired in the early 1990’s, and joined NWC.

His output ranged across Prose, Poetry and Drama. Some of his work was successful in terms of being published or winning prizes in local (poetry) competitions through the nineties.

In the subsequent decade he has etched his name with some regularity on the NWC annual awards in all three categories.

He became increasingly attracted to performance, firstly of poetry (from pubs to poetry festivals) and then stand-up comedy. “The feedback is immediate, evident and honest,” he says. Winning the regional round of a national stand-up comedy competition, he appeared at some big clubs and was a regular at Mansfield Comedy Club. There’s a serious side to him and he has interviewed some top writers.
