Ztan Zmith

Ztan Zmith - Vice President of the NWC

Ztan Zmith is the pen name of Stan Smith, formerly of Hyson Green, Sherwood and Bulwell, now living in the D H Lawrence 'country' of Brinsley, near Eastwood.

A member of the NWC for almost 30 years, he has held many offices within the Club including Vice Chairman, Secretary and Competitions Secretary for Prose and Poetry. Stan was NWC Chairman for twelve years (in four lots of three yearly stints.)

He is currently Chairman of the Basford and District Local History Society. With his twin loves of writing and local history he happily combines both interests.

Ztan has written many articles, short stories and poems, which have featured on Radio, TV and in a variety of newspapers and periodicals including Thomson's Weekly, The Nottingham Evening Post and the e-magazine The Nottinghamshire Times.

He writes about fascinating local characters from the past who lived in extraordinary times and this led to the publication of five books for Merrill Foundation's Nottinghamshire Heritage Series, a further ten books based on his home village of Brinsley, five books about nearby Underwood and Bagthorpe, together with books on Basford and Cinderhill and the Celebration of Marriage.

Ztan is also editor of The Basford Bystander a bi-monthly Community Newspaper devoted to nostalgia and local history around Basford, Nottingham.

Ztan's latest book 'The Green - A Journey through Time' is now published. This contains articles and photographs of Hyson Green and includes contributions from two other NWC members, Les Davey and Ron Booth.

This book will be reviewed in the Nottingham Evening Post by Features Writer John Brunton.

Ztan's successes.
