Join us for our May, NWC meeting on Friday the 27th from 2.30-4.45 pm.
Meeting content remains flexible, so we can offer a variety of content in the afternoon. There’s always time for a writing related chat, and either a mini-workshop or a couple of writing exercises to get you thinking. Manuscript feedback is generally bi-monthly.
If one of our writing exercises sparks your creativity, then take it home and carry on writing. We enjoy hearing the results at the next meeting.
Our March, Read and Write Night will be our regular mix of manuscript reading, discussion and the writing exercise focusing on beginnings.
The members in-depth group will be in session at the same time.
We hope to see as many members and visitors who are able to attend.

There will be writing exercises and discussion as part of the evening, so don’t forget to bring paper and a pen. If you’re using a digital device, please ensure it’s fully charged.
This is our first meeting on the ground-floor in the Restaurant area at our regular venue in the Nottingham Mechanics, and there are a few changes you need to know. Pleaseensure you read the following information to ensure your visit runs smoothly.
After entering the entrance lobby, you will need to be signed in and pay £2 to the Mechanics door person…
Visitors will then only need to pay NWC £3.
We hope to streamline this process for future meetings, but for the moment this is the system we must use, so please endeavour to arrive before the 7 pm start. Arriving after this time may mean a temporary delay in getting you signed in.

We’re back from our summer break with our new style Read & Write Night which will remain a regular part of our programme alongside: workshops, speakers, annual competitions and Christmas social events.
This month there will be discussion, manuscript reading with constructive comments, as well as a writing exercise for those who want to concentrate on developing their writing skills.
Our aim is to keep the format of the evening flexible so you get the most out of the meetings. This will also give you the opportunity to experience the different elements we offer.
Visitors are welcome, but we hope you’ll like what we offer and take up membership…
To get everyone back into writing mode for the coming year, we’re doing a basic editing mini-workshop.
Editing is a big topic and as we only have a set amount of time we’re going to focus on raising your awareness, a few common errors and then a practical session.
Whether you enter competitions or send your work out to magazines you need to improve your manuscripts by editing. Your first draft is the foundation and you can build upon that by improving your editing skills.
In part one of the evening we’ll be looking at book excepts before moving on to the more common issues. While in part two attendees can spend some time editing their own work to see if they can improve their text and make it stronger.
Please bring some of your own writing along with you for part two of the evening.
For our October Read & Write night we’re going to use a selection of postcards to inspire your creativity.
Whether you want to write fact or fiction the aim of this session is to get you mining your memories; creating associations and enjoying creating ideas.
There will be people, places, street scenes, and colourful settings to choose from…
With time for reading out for feedback and discussion.
